The Morgan Family

Henry Morgan and Esther Young were married in Hertfordshire in 1879. The couple started their married life in Little Munden, Hertfordshire, where their daughter, Evelyn, and son, Oscar, were born.

In 1884, Henry’s job as a gardener had taken the family to Foxborough Hall and into the employment of the Walford Family. The family lived in the Lodge to the Hall for over thirty years, during which time six more children were born; daughters Maud, May, Alice, Nora and Ethel; and son Harry. Maud and May died in childhood.

In 1911, both Henry and Harry were working as gardeners on the Foxborough Hall estate which, at that time, was leased to Percy Crossman. Evelyn married Melton man Ernest Fletcher Lumkin in 1906 and by 1911 they had moved to North London. Ernest served with the Royal Field Artillery during the Great War.
