John Patrick Francis Waters was born in 1882 in Freshford, Kilkenny, Ireland. In 1911, he was working at St Audry’s Hospital as a junior assistant medical officer. He enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1916 and, on 17th October 1917, was posted to East Africa.

At the end of the war, John returned to England and worked at the Maudsley Neurological Hospital in London, before taking up a position as a Medical Superintendent for the Ministry of Pensions.

By 1935, he had returned to Ireland and was living and working in Dublin. He died in Dublin on 16th January 1948. For his war service, John received the British War and Victory Medals.
