Elsie Nora Louise Murray; Red Cross.

Elsie Murray’s Red Cross Service card showing her as a “War Probationer” at the East Suffolk Hospital.

Elsie was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, in 1894, the third daughter of Arthur and Nora.

She was a member of the No.2 Suffolk Voluntary Aid Detachment as well as a paid Red Cross worker on the wards at the Ipswich and East Suffolk Hospital, from 18th December 1915 until 8th April 1918. She also worked at the 1st General Hospital in Camberwell London.

Available records indicate it is possible that during the First World War, Elsie served with the Serbian Relief Fund between 3rd June and 9th September 1915.

She remained unmarried and died in 1929, at the age of thirty-four, in a sanatorium in Norfolk. Elsie is buried at Melton Old Church.
